The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been nominated for the AFC Member Association of the Year (Gold) award at the AFC Annual Awards 2026, alongside Hong Kong and Malaysia.
The Asian Football Confederation announced the nominations on October 16, with the winners set to be revealed on November 19 at the Aksra Theatre King Power in Bangkok, Thailand.

Football Association of Hong Kong, China
Interestingly, the AIFF has also received a nomination for the AFC President's Recognition Award for Grassroots Football (Silver), alongside Bangladesh and Guam.
Recognition Amid Questions Over Indian Football
While the nominations represent international recognition for the AIFF, their timing is likely to raise eyebrows among Indian football supporters.
Questions remain over domestic football administration, the sustainability of club competitions, youth development pathways and accountability within state football associations.
There is also a wider debate about whether progress at the administrative level is translating into meaningful improvements on the pitch.
A Nomination Worth Celebrating?
The AFC's recognition is certainly noteworthy, but an award nomination should not be mistaken for proof that everything is functioning well.
Indian football needs more than recognition at annual ceremonies. It needs stronger domestic competitions, transparent governance, better grassroots structures and consistent opportunities for young players.
The bigger question is whether Indian football's progress is being felt by its clubs, players and supporters — or primarily recognised in administrative circles.
The winners will be announced on November 19, 2026.
