FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Visit Bangladesh on October 18?

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is reportedly set to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday, October 18, for a brief visit, generating excitement within Bangladesh's football community.

The reported trip comes shortly after Infantino held discussions with Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Tabith Awal during the FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia.

Their recent meeting focused on strengthening Bangladesh's relationship with FIFA, with discussions covering youth development, women's football and opportunities for greater international participation.

What Could the Visit Mean for Bangladesh?

Although the official itinerary and purpose of the reported visit remain unconfirmed, it comes at an important time for Bangladesh football.

The BFF has recently outlined plans to strengthen its youth development system, establish a permanent Under-23 squad and expand scouting opportunities for British-Bangladeshi footballers.

Bangladesh has also benefited from FIFA-supported infrastructure and development programmes, including the FIFA Forward initiative.

For supporters, the potential visit represents an opportunity to bring greater international attention to the country's football ambitions.

However, the bigger question is whether such high-profile engagement can translate into meaningful improvements in grassroots development, domestic football and national-team performance.

For Bangladesh football, the real success would not be Infantino's arrival in Dhaka, but what follows after he leaves.

Further details of the reported visit are awaited.

Mohun Bagan Beat Sporting Delhi 2-1 | ISL Match Review

Mohun Bagan Complete Stunning Comeback Against Sporting Delhi to Secure 2-1 Victory

Mohun Bagan Super Giant bounced back from their opening defeat with a 2-1 victory over Sporting Club Delhi, turning the match around with a dominant second-half performance.

Football is a game of two halves, and Sporting Delhi learned that lesson the hard way.

After an impressive opening 45 minutes, Thomas Tchors' side looked capable of taking something from the game. However, Mohun Bagan returned from the dressing room looking like a completely different team.

Sporting Delhi's Promising Start

Sporting Delhi continued to show glimpses of the exciting football that has made them an interesting team to watch this season.

Young midfielder Hnamte was particularly impressive, producing another strong performance and finding the net with a well-taken goal.

Having already impressed against Bengaluru FC, Hnamte is beginning to make a serious case for an Indian national team opportunity. His physicality, technical ability and confidence on the ball deserve attention from Khalid Jamil.

However, Delhi's biggest concern remains their inability to maintain the same intensity throughout 90 minutes.

Mohun Bagan's Second-Half Transformation

Following their opening defeat against NorthEast United, pressure was mounting on Mohun Bagan and head coach Panos.

But the Mariners responded brilliantly.

Their second-half performance was built around greater attacking intensity, improved midfield control and the individual quality that makes this squad one of the strongest in the ISL.

The equaliser from Lee Aravind gave Mohun Bagan the momentum they needed before Miguel Ferreira completed the comeback.

The winning goal was particularly impressive.

Apuia produced an outstanding line-breaking pass through a crowded midfield, finding Ferreira, who finished confidently.

It was a reminder of why Apuia remains such an important player for both club and country.

Apuia Makes the Difference

While Ferreira and Lee Aravind provided the goals, Apuia was arguably the most influential player on the pitch.

His composure, passing range and ability to operate under pressure helped Mohun Bagan take control of the second half.

Anirudh Thapa also delivered an impressive midfield performance, while Lallianzuala Chhangte looked considerably sharper than in the opening fixture.

However, Mohun Bagan still have work to do in attack. Despite creating several opportunities and registering 10 shots on target, they managed only two goals.

Their attacking combinations need improvement if they want to dominate consistently rather than rely on individual brilliance.

What Went Wrong for Sporting Delhi?

Delhi's second-half collapse raises questions about their fitness, game management and tactical adjustments.

Several players appeared exhausted as the match progressed, while the midfield struggled to deal with Mohun Bagan's increasing pressure.

Despite the defeat, there are positives for Thomas.

The tactical foundation looks promising, and the squad has enough quality to compete. But maintaining intensity and making effective adjustments after half-time must become priorities.

Playmaker India's Verdict

Mohun Bagan needed three points, and they delivered when it mattered.

Their squad depth and midfield quality make them difficult to write off against any opposition.

For Sporting Delhi, this is another reminder that playing attractive football for 45 minutes is not enough.

The biggest takeaway? Mohun Bagan showed their championship mentality, while Delhi showed they are still a work in progress.

And with the season still in its early stages, both teams have plenty to improve.

AIFF Nominated for AFC Award 2026 Amid Indian Football Concerns Copy

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been nominated for the AFC Member Association of the Year (Gold) award at the AFC Annual Awards 2026, alongside Hong Kong and Malaysia.

The Asian Football Confederation announced the nominations on October 16, with the winners set to be revealed on November 19 at the Aksra Theatre King Power in Bangkok, Thailand.

Gold Category Nominees

  • All India Football Federation (India)

  • Football Association of Malaysia

  • Football Association of Hong Kong, China

Interestingly, the AIFF has also received a nomination for the AFC President's Recognition Award for Grassroots Football (Silver), alongside Bangladesh and Guam.

Recognition Amid Questions Over Indian Football

While the nominations represent international recognition for the AIFF, their timing is likely to raise eyebrows among Indian football supporters.

Questions remain over domestic football administration, the sustainability of club competitions, youth development pathways and accountability within state football associations.

There is also a wider debate about whether progress at the administrative level is translating into meaningful improvements on the pitch.

A Nomination Worth Celebrating?

The AFC's recognition is certainly noteworthy, but an award nomination should not be mistaken for proof that everything is functioning well.

Indian football needs more than recognition at annual ceremonies. It needs stronger domestic competitions, transparent governance, better grassroots structures and consistent opportunities for young players.

The bigger question is whether Indian football's progress is being felt by its clubs, players and supporters — or primarily recognised in administrative circles.

The winners will be announced on November 19, 2026.
